the other thing i would recommend is quartz or granite which is definitely more expensive but will last waaaay longer. laminate peels easily and water can get under there and get moldy.
you could always call around and get a quote for both and then go from there!!

you absolutely can just replace the top laminate layer! but it involves sanding, adding adhesive, and cutting the new laminate to size. so either way you’re probably gonna want to have a contractor come in.
