We are nothing without each other. You think because you're privileged enough to be able to purchase your basic needs that you're somehow living independently. But you didn't make the clothes you buy. You didn't package them and ship them and deliver them to your doorstep. You didn't grow the food you eat. You didn't harvest the grain that becomes the flour in your bread. You didn't mine the precious minerals from the earth that became the computer chips in your phone. You can't provide your own treats. We need a community to do that. The difference is whether or not you believe the people who facilitated your treats deserve to have their own.

The Patriot Act set up the frame work for the authoritarianism we’re seeing with ice. The repeal of Glass-Steagail by Clinton and Citizens United allowed wealth to flow upward and for that wealth to control political outcomes. The US system has been set up for someone like trump to take advantage. Years ago I remember someone describing the US system as "turn key tyranny" (can't remember who said that) but the system has been broken down by the apathy of the citizens and a lack of political will to fix the cracks. The US has an incredible opportunity right now to rebuild but that requires citizen engagement that hasn't been seen in at least 50 years.
