Some people are telling on themselves, it seems to me.

Errr, this is an opportunity for Dems to, um, outflank the GOP on immigration, and so my advice is they should run on a platform of doubling funding for ICE.

I am very smart.

Same principle applies to whistleblowers and spies.

I'm thinking Hama in Syria in 1982 is the comp. Uprising put down with many tens of thousands killed.

Mary Beard's SPQR goes into this - Rome was literally founded by a gathering of exiles, outlaws, and ne'er-do-wells from other cities. It was a polyglot, assimilating place from Day One.

You don't. You blame it on "Congress" or "Washington" or "politicians" instead.

In a better world, the documentary would have been titled "Medium Talent"

I think the two are linked - he firmly put a marker down in opposition to the Trump administration, so now he had to balance the scales and bothsides things, and he did that by speaking in praise of Nearly Headless Chuck.

FROM HELL nicely illustrated the role that Masons had in the British police (and higher society) in the late 19th century.

Cynical me thinks it's that they want a place from where they can credibly make a play for control of the GOP once the old man kicks it.

Maneuvering for the post-Trump GOP begins today.

The original RACER game was probably the best thing that came out of Episode I (that's not a backhanded dis, it was legitimately a good game!)

And they released a remaster of the original Episode I podracer game a few years ago for the PS4.

There's a pretty strong link between bad times and good music. When things are great you get nu-metal and boy/girl bands.

My theory is that everybody smoked so nobody could taste anything, which is why they put up with such terrible food.

There's a direct line between the decline of smoking and the rise of foodie/celebrity chef culture IMHO.

It's one of the strengths of a bureaucratic system, that everyone is replaceable. Kill a CEO, some SVP or EVP gets promoted to replace him, the company goes on exactly as before.
December 20, 2025 at 3:04 PM
Recruiting is going to be a nightmare, too. No one with any prospects or talent is going to want to run for a contested congressional or (especially) senate seat in 2026 as a Republican.

The soil is toxic (it's full of fun stuff like benzene and perchlorates) and all but explodes when it contacts water (due to superoxides) and breathing the blowing fine dust causes horrible lung diseases usually only seen in people who work in quartz mines.

Basically a second Eden, yeah.
