i posted this on masto last night but bluesky needs to see it too
me: the reason mario's hat vanishes if he dies from being out of bounds is because the game actually resets his hat state every frame, then checks what platform is under him, then renders his hat if it's supposed to be on his head. so the out-of-bounds death interrupts this process robert: meow me: good question. i have no idea why they programmed it that way. i agree that it's very silly in retrospect, even though a player won't see this behavior under normal circumstances robert: meow

In short, the OpenAI paper inadvertently highlights an uncomfortable truth: the business incentives driving consumer AI development remain fundamentally misaligned with reducing hallucinations. Until these incentives change, hallucinations will persist.
