Someone re-homed a representative character of theirs that was my fixation growing up. While I'm grateful that it's getting treated very well, its new art doesn't give me the same feeling. That character was basically a journal of their personality growing up with them throughout their life stages

I think about who I consider my favorite artists often and a lot of it is the comfort they have with themselves and how effectively they portray their mindset and mental state. It feels so genuine. It's not always about just technical skill, though obviously that's impressive. It's how it feels true

I guess it makes sense... it tends to be harder to justify the time spent on one's own art internally. I chose the day job/draw for self route because I wanted to have the leeway to experiment techniques and improve, scared that I wouldn't be able to for comms. But ultimately, I rarely have time to.
