A ≈13 yo boy is old enough to know its wrong to make and spread a deepfake porn video about a female classmate.

This "boys will be boys" acceptance of sexual exploitation and harm of women is exactly how we end up w/ sexual abusers in positions of power.

The NYT sat on a story and pictures that could have destroyed Trump's electoral chances in 2016.

Sulzberger appears in Epstein's list to Bannon.

I'm sure there's a perfectly benign explanation. Right, @nytimespr.bsky.social ?

💯.

The enormous drain caused by for-profit publishers persists b/c (a) they have a monopoly on the high-prestige journal titles; and (b) researchers and evaluators (e.g., T&P committees, deans, letter writers) use journal prestige as indicator of quality.

We have met the enablers and they are us.

The Dem's gerontocracy problem began well before the Boomer vs. Millennial conflicts. It stems from Boomers' exclusion of those born 1965-1980 from slots & party support. These folks would now be peak political age: experience + name recognition, w/o being old.

Instead Gen-X got the CBSN treatment:

From 2012 to 2022, the median pay of private uni presidents increased by 49%, not inc. bonuses, housing, jet use, etc.

The median pay of FT faculty rose by 16%. (Inflation: 28%.)

% change slightly greater at publics, tho off lower base.

A one-two punch of dark humor.

Top post: @janierola.net announces a fantastic new grant that will allow him to do his own research for 6 years. (Congrats, Jani!)

Bottom post: Halloween yard decoration of a headstone that reads, "I did my own research" & a skeleton emerging from grave.

My cat put her head in a Dorito bag, got stuck, became disoriented, panicked, and had to be rescued. All while her brother looked on with the cat equivalent of a laugh.

Just in case you thought YOU were having a bad day.

Murkowski supports Trump most of the time, but there's nothing wrong with this statement on the Trump EPA's decision to cancel all Biden-era climate mitigation grants because they are "a waste of money." (This includes a $20M grant to Kipnuk for sea erosion barriers.)

Yes, yes, but apart from that, Mrs. Lincoln, did you enjoy the play?

Knight Institute documents how the Trump "compact" with universities violates the law and the constitution.

Sec of Transport Sean "I Once Visited the Real World on TV" Duffy: "You don't have roads in Alaska."

Yup, roads cause too much damage to the paws of the sled dogs that all Alaskans use, winter & summer.

(TBF, he's not wrong about rural communities' reliance on air travel to connect to the cities.)

If GOP fails to extend IRA premium subsidies, cheapest health insurance for Alaskans will skyrocket.

Single mom earning $40K/yr will pay $1800/yr, 7x more than in 2025.

2 64-year olds earning $110K/yr will pay $58K/yr (!), 5x more.

(AK's poverty thresholds 25% higher b/c of CoL)

Republicans want this for Alaska. Human inhabitants, wildlife, clean air and water, and hunting/fishing/tourism industries be damned.

Went for a 6 mile walk to get away from it all. Ran into this American toad. Looks like he's as disgusted by American politics as I am.

Or maybe that's just Resting American Toad face.

My parents' hobby orchard of organic, heritage variety fruit will produce 15,000 pounds of apples this year.

Problem is, all local growers have a bumper crop so September's apples are like July's zucchini: you can't give them away, even to the food bank.

Latest plan: convert apples to venison.

I agree but this case is even worse: it appears that the detailed course description* explicitly mentions that it will explore how gender and sexuality are depicted in YA literature.

*As the reddit poster mentions, there's some confusion and possible misreporting of which course she's teaching.

Rising gold prices means a placer mining boom in Yukon Territory and other Gold Rush regions.

Here's what placer mining does to the environment.

But it's OK because YT gvt got 36,000 CDN (26K US$) in royalties. Whee.

And a few jobs, tho mining is heavily mechanized.
