One of the local creative groups - the aptly named SAPS, and what a bunch we are - is putting on a show for the Conwy Fringe at the lovely, refurbished, Neuadd Ni - A Hall for All on July 30th.
I’ll be performing some of my angst-ridden, navel-gazing poetry - but don’t let that put you off!

My Mum had lots of quirky housekeeping habits that I’ve not inherited. But this one I did. Collecting up the little pieces of ‘finished’ soap and every few months or so making them into a big new interesting bar of different scents. It makes me smile and think of her every time I do it.

A lovely evening at Conwy Folk Club. Opportunities to perform are really valuable to me as I get more of a sense of how my poems land with people, and to spend time with more experienced performers. Especially enjoyed hearing ‘Congleton Bear’ & Woody Guthrie’s ‘Deportees’.

Had a great time on Saturday serving as a dogsbody (casualty for training purposes) for Search and Rescue dogs. To be a dogsbody you need to be okay in your own company for several hours, while you hide out in the countryside in a bivvy-bag, waiting to be found. Helps if you like dogs.

Gŵyl Fair y Canhwyllau. Folk past & present celebrating the coming of Spring just now, and rightly so. Early Feb always feels like a time of reckoning to me - crisis & rebirth - grief & pain met by fragile hope & light. Grateful, for lots of reasons, especially today.

RSPB Great Garden Birdwatch. Quite quiet in the garden til the last ten minutes when the glamorous long-tailed tits arrived en masse. No corvids, no woodpeckers, no greenfinch.

Unable to be there in person, but, as a former student & former member of staff at this unique university college, I stand in solidarity with those protesting at the Senedd today. The decision to scrap UG teaching at Lampeter is unsound. Calling upon Welsh Govt to intervene.

Sad to hear Michael Leunig died this morning. His poems can be a bit saccharine and bleugh sometimes (personal view from a miserable, cynical, old melancholic!)

We are facing the loss of all undergraduate teaching on the Lampeter campus. UGs have been taught there for 200 years. More than a decade of disinvestment & the wider political attack on the humanities have led to this.
