Our conversation covers his carer journey, what it has taught him, plus the concept of radical honesty in politics.

We talk about why he doesn't like the term 'unpaid carer' and why a carer-centric strategy is crucial.

This autumn, warmth feels like a luxury.
But community can be a kind of warmth too — and that’s something we can share.

💬 Tell us: What’s one small thing that helps you feel cared for right now?

Oh yes, can go on about this at length.
My council will only fund things that make for a press opportunity, like hiring a bus to go around telling us about our rights.
Actually ask for our rights, ask for the support people actually need... silence.
If I hear the say "coproduction" one more time...

Oh Tracy we feel for you.
Sorry this is your experience.

Hi Tracy,
We produced a report with Carers Trust last year detailing the reality of carers rights here if you want to read it.

You can imagine what’s in it.

We worked so hard during Covid to get carers flagged onto GP systems. It was an uphill battle then.

Even got a carer to talk to then vaccine minister as it got ridiculous. Often receptionists didn’t understand carers could be any age.

It’s something that needs addressing.

Yes realise that from not having mine.

Glad you get called in for flu shot. It’s the least they can do…. So many carers still not recognised by their GPs as carers so not flagged for this.

I would really like commissioners in adult social care to acknowledge the needs of unpaid carers, such as parents who look after adult children.
They don’t seem to understand that unpaid carers also have bills to pay.
