It’s gobsmackingly awful. They’ve got a massive majority. They could bring in Levison 2, they could regulate social media, they could make the BBC truly independent, they could close the huge loopholes with foreign influence in party funding, they could bring in electoral reform… Nothing.

couldn’t agree more. Unfortunately Labour administrations tend to be control freaks and this administration more than most.

The only way to square the circle would be a financially independent organisation like the National Trust which can defend itself from entryism and government meddling. Of course no government would like that because they want to keep them under the thumb.

💯
The BBC’s strength is also it’s weakness. It is notionally independent of the government but the government holds the purse strings, so although it can make its own day-to-day decisions, it can’t afford to make an enemy of the government.

Newcastle still has theirs. It’s a fascinating remnant of 1960s urban design. The double deck section near Windsor Terrace is mad but not terrible. The tunnels and walkways round Swan House though are grim.

Another option might be to take the Electric Road / Devils Backbone /Chilswell Valley (although the Valley is also footpath not a bridleway)

If you could just make this bit a paved bridleway there would be a really decent low-traffic route most of the way.

I came off my bike and got bad road-rash. My mum advised me to get some chloramphenicol eye cream (they use it in hospitals as an antibiotic for wounds). The UK pharmacist wouldn’t sell me it as it wasn’t a licensed use, so I asked him if I could buy some ‘for my eyes’. He grudgingly sold me some!

Yes, true, but they used GPS to detect that the train was at a 3rd party depot and immobilised it
