The thing about guidelines and "rules" and etc. is the writers who overstress about them usually have no reason to and the writers who ignore them are the very ones the guidelines were there for.
I feel guilty submitting a story when it's 45 words over the word limit. I can't even imagine thinking I'm so special I don't have to read the actual journal.
some people seem to submit to lit journals like they're being forced to

Thinking about my sweet Lulu that passed several years ago and a certain song I’d play and she knew it was play time. I’d dance silly and she would go grab a toy to play fetch with. I’m not I’ve listened to the song since. And even if I did, the magic would be gone.

Come see the Mocha Pot Exhibit at Ozaki Gallery, Lowe Mill ARTS & Entertainment, Huntsville, AL! 25 of my limericks are part of it. Gallery owner Yuri Ozaki’s husband hand wrote them in calligraphy for the event. I printed them in little free booklets! runs through September!
