Boyle said Bullock is not on administrative leave, as the crash appears to have been an accident. The Washington State Patrol is investigating.

The crash closed Staff Sgt. Pendleton Way halfway between North First and North Second streets, and North First Street was closed between East Yakima Avenue and East Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard until around 6 p.m.

Officer Walter Bullock was making a left turn around 4:53 p.m. when he hit the woman and the dog, YPD Chief Shawn Boyle said. The dog died at the scene, and the woman was taken to MultiCare Yakima Memorial Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, Boyle said.
