A very helpful reminder from my friend Marty Shenkman that many legacy irrevocable trusts might have renewed life if we can do some basis planning for them. Higher $15 million exemptions will open more doors to doing this, while the opportunity lasts

Local law defines your right to property. Federal tax law defines the tax result of those rights.

In outbound cross-border planning, revocable trusts we have lovingly created can be a disaster waiting to happen

Don’t fear breaking convention and restructuring without the revocable trust if that accomplishes succession goals in your client’s new country of residence
