Baroness Smith describes 6% cut to Adult Skills Fund as "relatively small" but will continue to "make the case". We know the dire impact it will have on adult learners so making the case feels especially urgent.

Really enjoyed the @weaadulted.bsky.social Parliamentary reception today. Thought I'd share the postcard we prepared for the event - these are the things we look forward to discussing further with Parliamentarians and partners in 2025

Good to hear @hetanshah.bsky.social speaking about need to have more holistic view in regional policy. Community adult learning is a good lens for that bringing together skills with wellbeing and community connections

Am sure I'll hear lots about skills today but I wonder how often it will be in the context of growth through investment in high tech (important) and how often, for example, helping adults get their first qualification if they don't have one (also important). #Labourconference

Looking forward to reading @employmentstudies.bsky.social report on employment support after the launch this morning. Will be looking out for thoughts on supporting those with low/no quals who @wilsontony.bsky.social mentioned in his presentation. Partnerships with adult learning orgs key here.

Excellent conference of all the WEA team today with Chief Exec, Simon Parkinson, and the leadership team setting out a strategy based on accountability and collaboration. Genuine sense of hope and energy in the room. Also, how lovely is the Great Hall at University of Birmingham?
