"Complex adaptive systems science in the era of global #sustainability crisis" by An etal (2024; Geography & Sustainability. doi.org/10.1016/j.ge...) is a useful review of #CAS applications, especially in #land-use. But why no attention to CAS approaches to understanding #innovation processes?

Manufactured capital is a primary determinant of #sustainable development, with both positive and negative impacts on #wellbeing. Just where it is and how it's constituted matter for #Sustainability but are poorly documented. Frantz et al. point the way forward with an this elegant study.

I learned a lot working with IOW's Florian Kern on "Sustainability Transitions in Consumption-Production Systems." Results (open access) here: www.pnas.org/topic/551. Next steps? Getting better at doing long term evaluations of whether proposed innovations will actually promote sustainability.
