I love zany energy transmission/storage ideas (particularly w/ trains). Sadly this probably isn't zany enough. Coal trains are currently 30% of US railroad traffic and they carry 27 GWh per train. Battery train replacing *just* coal generation w/ renewables requires 27x increase in throughput...

Well he was a new face so he got to define himself, and he chose to do so in a culturally moderate way. He pretended to love skeet shooting, be opposed to gay marriage on religious grounds, and be annoyed at seeing Mexican flags.

This is backwards. The only thing that put a dent in the steady increase in acceptance of gay marriage was the small backlash to national legalization. Then it got back on trend.
