Definitely a slow-drinking beer these days for me too, Brendan, but a great beer.

But on the note of less ABV beers, you could always do one of your videos on the Dad Strength beer.

‘One discovers the light in darkness, that is what darkness is for; but everything in our lives depends on how we bear the light. It is necessary, while in darkness, to know that there is light somewhere, to know that in oneself, waiting to be found, there is light.’

To your point @asociologist.bsky.social, 2020 was abysmal compared to prior years.

Here’s one view going back to 2010, but 2009 is when the market collapsed.

Another talking point to share about the impact of cuts to federal research funding:

IRIS (in @umisr.bsky.social) found research funding supported employment of 138k+ people at 48 member institutions in FY24, & 42.4% were *STUDENTS.*

These cuts erode education & job training all at once. 1/2

Just want to plug @cmpech.bsky.social’s new book Major Trade-Offs that speaks directly to the myths of popular narratives about college majors, needed knowledges & skillsets, & employability.

Great start to EO arguing for power grab over federal research funding decisions & calling for more rigor: cite a highly critiqued ‘study’ (Cruz report; also not linked/cited properly) that fails research methods courses across disciplines b/c CTRL-F only gives you words, not their context & usage.

With everything going on, David Rangel & I have a new article on using fundamental cause theory to identify & challenge racism’s perpetuation of educational inequality. Thanks to @victorerikray.bsky.social for introducing us years ago, & to the ICQCM community. journals.sagepub.com/doi/abs/10.3...

Second, what are the accountability policies & procedures in such a system for ‘crossing a/the line,’ if any? This could obviously undercut the desire for viewpoint diversity & perhaps that’s the point: leave things unchecked & ‘may the odds be ever in your (idea’s) favor’ in a land of inequality.

First, differentiating what makes a ‘good’ versus a ‘bad’ idea are ill-defined in the aim to have all ideas be included on equal footings to continuously buy & sell ideas, not promote critical interrogation—which could be argued to be an affront to free speech under such frameworks.
