Let’s talk Red Sox!
Nico is a very solid 2B with great D, but it doesn’t solve the 3B or RH power core issue. Mayer could be 2B, and a lot cheaper. Need power and 3B (or the magical RH power 2B).

Trading for Matt Shaw, on the other hand, is intriguing.

Imagine having a 28 yr old 3B who hits 30 HR / 100 RBI each year, Silver Slugger winner, Yankee killer, all for under $30M/yr for the next 5 years. Know anyone like that?

Update: Boston’s unwillingness to include a full no-trade clause like the Cubs did prove to be a sticking point as well (Cubs deferred a lot of money, but Sox deferrals were longer).

Guaranteed this will NOT happen. He’ll demand more years and more money years than Bregman. And he has an injury history. Henry won’t allow it.

I hope Cora is right - keep Ceddanne in CF. So Romy at 2nd and Mayer at 3rd? Sign Eugenio Suarez for 1 year at 3B?

Oh, the irony of having to sign Devers to a huge contract because they messed up on Xander so badly, then claim it was a terrible contract, only to have to overpay for Bichette because they screwed up with Bregman so badly. Nah…

Henry has had 7 years to put that narrative behind, and he has refused to. There is no reason to think this year will be any different.

Notice the signature’s first name 🙂

JD’s years were 2018-22, so the last year of Sox greatness and then the abyss (outside of an unexpected great run in 2021). So the rotating DH ploy is a result of Henry getting cheap, and not really a strategy to win.

So… Bregman is worth 2x this? $120M over 4 years? And throw in a $10M signing bonus to equal the posting fee? (2/2)

Okamoto’s deal is worth $60 million over four years with a $5 million signing bonus, a source told ESPN, confirming multiple reports. Okamoto will have a $7 million salary this year and $16 million in each of the following three seasons, according to the Associated Press. (1/2)

Even a broken clock is right twice a day 🙂. He might be a shill for Boras here, too. But I am betting this will be close to the offer Bregman accepts - whichever team offers it.
