My Dad worked in Plymouth back in the late '60's through 1977. He took us to all the great restaurants of the time, Dern-McGrath's, Ernie's, and Bert's. All were good, but I think Bert's was my favorite.

I was fortunate enough to meet Buzz almost 30 years ago. He is pretty awesome!

I remember going out to Long Island Hospital every week from 1963-1968. My mother, grandfather and aunt would visit my grandmother. I'd stay in the parking lot with my father because I was too young to go inside. Video brings back many memories. www.wbur.org/cognoscenti/...
Long Island Viaduct, Long Ago
The bridge was a metaphor for the connection we on the mainland had with those served by the programs on Long Island: It was shaky. It was tenuous. But at least it was there.

Another well thought out and written piece, Bob. Thanks for sharing.

I remember Michael Dukakis backing a health care for all proposal during his last term as MA Guv late 1980’s. Democratic legislature and Romney got it past the finish line early 2000’s. Model for ACA 2008-2010

I thought so too!

Trump will claim he was posting the video as part of his official duties as president, and is therefore exempt from facing any charges. SCOTUS will concur.

It was the first major news story I covered. It was also my 18th birthday. I cannot verify if this is true, but I'm told that whenever JPII met anyone from Boston, he would ask, "Is it still raining?" Again, it's hearsay, but a great story nevertheless.

Because I'm a journalist who strives for accuracy, upon further review of the photo, it was not that particular parking kiosk where JPII said mass. The kiosk in today's photo is along Beacon St. The altar was built over the Charles St. kiosk. I stand by observation of crowd size, though.

Wow. Last time I saw a crowd like that there was October 1, 1979. John Paul II was saying mass above that parking kiosk.

Trump got 36.5% in Massachusetts in 2024. I guess if you round up (by a lot) that would be 40%. www.politico.com/2024-electio...

His cover photo from the Desire Album was shot in Plymouth. Now I gotta go listen to "Hurricane."

I kinda get this. Last year during a vacation to Southern California I just had to find this nondescript condo in Santa Monica. It's where the long arm of the law finally caught up with Boston gangster James "Whitey" Bulger. I was the only tourist there that day. www.wbur.org/news/2011/06...

I always found it odd that we never had a president who was born in the 1930's. Dukakis and McCain were born in the 30's, but both lost their respective races.

I’m told that while he was on the lam, Whitey Bulger was an excellent driver.

I remember those days. 6th Grade. I was supposed to do 100 sit ups. I could only do 3. Yeah, I'm over that.
