I used to study frog genetics, now I work on other genetics to help make gooder plants. Got a soft spot for things with doubled genomes, mutts, and fish eating dry flies.

Also if you're ever in the area, check out D's rod shop in Cliff, NM. The coolest fly shop I've been in, which was pretty much a tinkerer's basement where the owner is just thinking up unique rods/flys. Snagged this 11' 2-3 wt. that has a switch handle doubling it as a 5wt spey.

Also on the trip, managed to get the AZ rare and wild salmonid slam with Gila and Apache trout as well as arctic grayling. Very cool fish in some very unique places!

Banner morning before hitting the airport outta Tucson after a 10 day vacation in the deserts and sky islands of the southwest. A nice end that makes 8 species of Crotalus seen this trip.

Got lucky to sneak up on a couple of snapping turtles wrestling (mating?) while wading up the Eno last weekend. Hard to tell if it is mating, I would normally guess yes but seems a bit late for here. Either way the smaller one seems unconvinced.

A friend is visiting and asleep on the couch so I spent the morning tying some march browns. Better quality than usual, I think since I was trying to be extra quiet. #flyfishing #flytying

now that flyfishingsky is here, recently I got to do some of my most exhilarating fly fishing yet, going after the little tunny off the coast of NC. Watching them slam baitfish while blasting towards our towards our boat with was one of the cooler natural experiences i've witnessed. #flyfishing

Yesterday was one of those banner days where the only thing to do is try a bunch of things and break it just to find out what's working so well

Our company is being featured for a piece to hopefully be on TV so I cooked up this important science screen to run on the lab monitor. I really hope it makes it in

The brown trout on the Smith River in VA are probably the prettiest I've ever seen, at least at this age. The red on the adipose is incredibly vibrant, and the blue sheen not captured here is stunning.
