The view from my back deck has been great the last three days. I live next to a large field filled with ground squirrel burrows. This has not gone unnoticed by a badger, a fox, and a couple of great blue herons.

I used to work at a visitor center where we frequently had visitors come in and ask…What are those black birds with the yellow heads? (Nearby was a parking lot where the birds picked bugs off car grills.) People would think we were being a smart ass when we’d tell them, Yellow-headed Blackbirds.
