Combines a George Romero zombie flick with high school angst. This was a nostalgia watch. One of the first DVDs Netflix orders I ever did. Its of the 2000s so some language doesn’t age well and the video fidelity isn’t great. Pretty solid zombie flick still.

Gonna have to rewatch Pulse. This wasn’t a great first viewing experience. I got lost with the plot and the CGI doesn’t hold up well. Still really scary atmosphere. I appreciate its themes of isolation. I’ll enjoy this on the second viewing.

Holds up really well, especially the dialogue which didn’t feel dated. The alien looked likes Frankenstein‘s monster. Another example of the scientist being the evil/idiot one.

Sinners deserves all the praise that it’s gotten. I appreciate Sinners spent a good chunk of the movie just letting the audience live in that cultural backdrop of Mississippi 1930. So when the shit hit the fan. It hit you hard.

Had some good jokes, on the horror/plot not it’s strong suit, but that’s not the point.

I really clicked with this movie I had flashbacks to Seven/Silence of the Lambs. I loved Maika Monroe and Blair Underwood performance and chemistry with each other. The creepy atmosphere. The very creepy performances by Nicolas Cage and Alice Witt. Loved it.

Tony Todd is fantastic, reminds me of Dracula. Candyman wants to deal with gentrification and race, but it gives up on that towards the last third of the movie. How do I get Virginia Madison‘s job that doesn’t seem productive to society, but still gets paid a lot?

Dead Snow was Saints Row 3 funny but mostly grounded. The sequel is Saints Row 4 go completely crazy ridiculous. More violence and more things that are absurd funny. Why is Martin Starr in this movie?

I always admire George Romero put strong ideas in his zombie movies. Day has some ideas I don’t think fully work but are interesting. The Dead movies continue to have compelling protagonist as the lead. Tom Savini does not disappoint with his zombie make up effects.

What if Freddy Krueger and Carrie had a baby? This movie drags in the middle. But in the last 30 minutes, It becomes pretty fun with some neat special effects. Movie also confirms. I’m not really into movies with main character characters getting possessed

Orcs and Humans have to work together to combat this omnipresent force called the Dying. There’s internal conflicts cultural differences, as these two groups try to work together after being at war. It ended on a great cliffhanger and has fantastic art all the way through

I love a great heist story it spins, a wonderful yarn as an older Catwoman with a few well-known faces try and break into the Batman‘s Batcave after he’s passed away. Great twist and turns and complications. Cliff Chang’s art is fantastic to boot.

You can tell Daniel Warren Johnson loves wrestling and his art style was perfect for it. I also wasn’t expecting a moving family drama. You really come to root for the father daughter team as they try and compete in this crazy fantastical wrestling tournament.

Mark Waid is the master of spinning a superhero yarn. He just knows how to bring the fun to a superhero book and Dan Mora’s art is fantastic. One of the best, artists going today. It had so many fun left turns I didn’t know where it was going.

Enjoyed the premise of there’s limited land, and this ragtag group of pilots on this mega airship are trying to find it. Plus, how can you not love Ariel dogfights? The artwork here was fun. I had a good time.

HM: Nailbitter
Enjoyed its murder mystery plot and the the gimmick that the town of Buckaroo is this home to multiple serial killers and that’s become a tourist trap. Would love to read more if this series ever comes back.

Patrick Radden Keefe does a masterful job showing how people can get wrapped up in a cause how it becomes a part of a person‘s identity how far people are willing to go. And the after effects of those choices

I love the cat and mouse aspect of the story of you don’t ever know who’s on top of who and the use of flashbacks illustrating The present events keeps things interesting. If you’re into political intrigue in your narrative, you’ll have fun with this book.

Basically, it’s Questlove from the Roots having different essays about different points during the 20th century of American music from 1970 to 2001. He spends a whole chapter on Prince, which is really entertaining. For this one definitely listen to the audiobook.

I love books that explore how the English language slang and terminology originates and evolves. Montell explores how language is gendered. In a approachable way.
