Big shocker: I support it! It means more affordable, non-market homes in neighbourhoods across the City. That means lower rents - and homes for people, not profit.

Today, ABC Vancouver will vote on a tremendously damaging budget.

We still don't know the full extent of the cuts. But what we know is damaging enough:

Major cuts to arts and culture, libraries starved of resources they need, and the sustainability department potentially on the chopping block. 1/2

The last 3 days at #HousingCentral have been fantastic (although I must admit I’ve been a little distracted since Monday!). This morning we had a truly excellent keynote from @harrisonmooney.bsky.social with his great telling of Black history in BC, including his new portmanteau Hegemonologue!

Yesterday I joined hundreds of neighbours in speaking out against Ken Sim’s cynical and damaging budget.

Libraries, community centers, and parks aren’t luxuries, they’re essential for our collective well-being, safety, and dignity.

The speakers list continues today.

Candidates for Mayor in Vancouver for next year’s municipal election are starting to officially launch their campaigns. Here’s one I’ll be watching closely given his housing and community-building experience, @wazaroff.bsky.social with @onecityvan.bsky.social.

As a OneCity School Board Trustee @reddyforchange.bsky.social has done so much for our kids, schools, and city.

I'm speaker #500 against this austerity budget. I’m okay with waiting since over 600 residents are also sharing their concerns on this budget. This overwhelming number of speakers from every part of society make it clear that we don’t want services to be cut which will make our great city worse.

I truly hope the folks from @riotheatre.bsky.social are able to acquire The Park. I’ve seen so many films there over the years. I fondly remember a 70mm 2001 A Space Odyssey revival print on Jan 12 1992, the date in the film HAL became active. The audience gasped!
