The post you quoted makes me think of Google+ and how at the end, all its user base was bots.

Basically, stay calm in the face of bad faith actors because they have tricks up their sleeves. Get the rest of the room on your side, make them want to move on rather than watch the show. Doing this is not backing down from the fight. It is making the other side punch themselves in their own face.

If we haven't moved on by then, I apologize to the other people in the meeting for wasting so much time on the topic, and tell them what will happen to resolve the issue. At that point nobody is happy with the other person, and the other ppl in the meeting urge them to give it a break...

Meanwhile I stay calm and use the other people in the meeting, looking at them with "can you believe this guy?" written on my face. They get tired of the rant, and lose patience with the aggressor. I offer to work with them after the meeting, which they ignore a couple of times...

I just nod and say "oh, oops, sorry," and then nothing more. They expect a defensive reaction and a fight. But these people lean so hard in on that, that they are off balance. They get flustered. They repeat their point. They drag out the discussion trying to make it an argument...
