Ooo difficult as all strong. As much as I love Sanderson, I think the Book of Form and Emptiness impressed me most!

Think the idea is that you have to use their app so it doesn’t support Amazon. If the book is DRM-free though, you can download it from bookshop and then just drag it onto your kindle by connecting it to PC or via email etc

May or may not have SOBBED at this one 😭

One of my all time favs. The heatwave vibes are 🤌🏻

Guessing you’ve read Malcolm McDowell if you like southern gothic horror? Thought I’d mention incase! The Elementals, Blackwater or the amulet. Southern bookclubs guide to slaying vampires by Grady Hendrix. The boatman’s daughter by Andy Davidson would also tick the box!

I would give my right arm to read that for the first time again! I always recommend it for non-fantasy readers who enjoyed ACOTAR/TOG and want to delve more. Not as complex as Stormlight so good middle ground. Brandon is destined to be a future apex legend of the genre (already is to me)

I feel vindicated hearing this. I own all of the lovely hardback versions but I’m always putting myself off reading the last few! Nightwatch is my very close second, fab choice 👌🏻 it’s funny cause even though Terry is no longer with us, it feels like he still is in some way…

Station Eleven by Emily St. John Mandel

Emily is an auto-buy author for me and this one started the journey. I’m a huge fan of her writing and how her stories are intriguing but also make you think. Existentialism FTW! Also a sucker for when stories subtly connect 💙📚

I am BEYOND jealous you’ve met him - he seems like such a quirky cool guy!

Frankenstein by Mary Shelley

Can’t have Dracula without Frankenstein in the list. Absolute classic and so many layers. People think they know the story… but often they don’t! If Mary Shelley was alive today, we’d certainly be BFFs. Be still my gothic heart 💙📚

I love the folio editions! I have tons (RIP my bank balance) but none of the Christies yet….

Dracula by Bram Stoker

One of my favs of all time. I think I own this an about 15 different editions. Absolute classic, the creator of a genre and such fine writing. Nothing better than reading this during a trip to Whitby! 💙📚

Small Gods by Terry Pratchett

Discworld is the warm hug of fantasy - so easy to pick up and get lost in. He’s phenomenal at subliminally using political/moral themes and basically reminding people to be good humans! Picking this one as I believe it’s one of the best 💙📚

The Murder of Roger Ackroyd by Agatha Christie

Agatha is the GOAT! Best Christie novel, best murder mystery and the OG inventor of modern tropes. Needs no other explanation 💙📚

Water Shall Refuse Them by Lucie McKnight Hardy

Lesser known but I’ve read this more times than any other book. Set amidst the famous UK heatwave of 1976 it’s one of the best depictions of time and place. If you love uncanny/creepy tales I IMPLORE you to pick it up! 💙📚

A Little Life by Hanya Yanagihara

Would never openly recommend to anyone for obvious reasons but for me, it’s one of the most complex and heart shattering character studies I’ve ever read. No book has ever made me ‘feel’ as much as this one 💙📚

Throne of Glass series by Sarah J Maas

Amazingly fleshed out accessible fantasy. Fantastic series that will always have my heart in some form 💙📚

Dolores Claiborne by Stephen King

The author that got me hooked on reading as a young lad. I could list a million King books but this one is HUGELY underrated in my eyes. It’s gripping, the characters are amazing and mega accessible for new readers! 💙📚
