Just reminded again that the most absurd idea I've ever heard, the most immediately self-refuting concept that always does my head in, is the idea that "consciousness is just an illusion, so there's really nothing to it that is all that difficult to explain".

And the MAGA supporters will ask the Son of Man, "When did I mistreat you and abuse you?" And the Son of Man will answer, "When you voted for a man who openly said he would do these things to the most vulnerable people in society. For whatever you did to the least of these you did to me."

Tribalism is deeply hard-wired in us, and means people on both the "left" and the "right" will inevitably coalesce around shared ideas.
That said, I'd far rather find commonality with others around shared ideas like "people all have value" than ideas like "immigrants are the problem"!

I'd say the most mysterious things in the universe is us. We are a collection of the same atoms that make up everything, yet our particular "arrangement" gives rise to conscious thought. There's obviously more to reality than we've worked out yet!
