In our solar system there is a place called the heliopause. A point where the force of our sun is no longer dominant, where the solar winds are free. It's tough to know where this is, but it happens. I've started to think about how my own mental health struggles passed its own heliopause. 🧵

Looking at @bsky.app stats. bsky.jazco.dev/stats. Exponential growth makes sense but what happened in Oct 17 for that huge step increase?

That's actually in the subscription.ts file. And that's where you put your search logic.

Got confused because I looked first at the algos/ folder assuming that was where the "algorithm" was defined. And I got super confused when the "whats_alf.ts" file had no Alf search queries. But for most people, when we think of a custom feed algorithm, we're thinking of search terms for posts.

You remember that string from Bluesky that you needed to copy? Copy and paste that string into the file. Just that line. Nothing else.

Call the new file "atproto-did" and edit it.

When you're in the folder, create a New File.

You should now see a previously hidden folder called ".well-known". Double click into that to get into the folder.

You should get a file browser page that shows you folders and files (Looks like File Explorer or the Finder). Click on the options or settings menu (in this example, three dots; it might look like a cog for others) and make sure to "show hidden files."

Log into your website control panel and select the option to manage your website. In this example I'm showing GoDaddy, but they're all relatively similar. Just look for similar terms on your hosting provider's page. Look for a File Browser option.

Enter your domain name (your new handle) and click on "No DNS Panel". Copy the string circled in this screenshot or click on "Copy File Contents"
November 15, 2024 at 11:02 PM
In Bluesky go to Settings and then click on Change Handle

Had a great time last week with @ryanandrosoff.bsky.social at the FWD50 conference recording 9 (!) interviews for the Let’s Think Digital podcast. Our first set will be released tomorrow morning where we talk about what we wish our public servant bosses knew about digital transformation.
