Yesterday at the San Diego Wargamers meet up at the library, I played the renowned Verdun 1916 - Steel Inferno. The Germans, played by my board game buddy Charlie, broke through the French lines and seized Verdun for the victory. cool game. We both felt like we were mitigating impossible situations

Rode my bike to what I believe is the original site of the Kumeyaay village “Otai”, which Otay Mountain and Otay Mesa are named after. I wish I could find a map of the original Kumeyaay villages in the San Diego and Tijuana region.

Fascinating read. Didn’t realize how close the Spaniards were to getting annihilated and how formidable the Incas were in their guerrilla campaign.

A milestone for me in the board game hobby. Played my first 18xx train game “Shikoku 1889” at the library. Might have found a new gaming group. Ended the night with games of “Blokus” and “People Power” with the family. Great day.

Jumped in on an impromptu game of the impressive COIN game “Red Dust Rebellion”. Concluded with a seminar on C3i magazine’s upcoming Korean War game. Fun day

Playing Verdun 1916: Steel Inferno. solo to grok the rules. So far it’s a really cool game. Lots of difficult decisions to make each turn. It is about to go down at Fort Douaumont, a key objective early in the game.

Last year I helped my son design a board game called “18 minutes- A Game on the Battle of San Jacinto “ for a 6th grade project. We repurposed Memoir 44 components. Texians need 6 victory points and capture Santa Anna to win. Mexico wins by either 6 victory points or sneaking Santa Anna off the map.

Something always draws me back to “Neanderthal”. No other game like it (except “Greenland”)
