This is what our democracy has become. His staffers are as spineless as he is, it seems.
Went to Mitch McConnell's Lexington office today with about two dozen other people, the youngest among us around 50. Gentle, calm group. Our goal was to express deep concern about Russell Vought, the architect of Project 2025, who has been nominated for OMB and who plans to shut down the federal government. Vote will be later today. We were refused entry. Police were called. We were told we were trespassing and to remove ourselves from the sidewalk outside the building. We were told we could go to the nearest public sidewalk on Harrodsburg Road, which was far, far away. We expressed amazement that we could be trespassing when it's our tax dollars that pay the rent on the building and the salaries of our Senator and his staff. Eventually the staffer agreed to see us 2 x 2. First two people went in. Very civil conversation, they said after--they were polite and expressed their concerns calmly. Not at all threatening. One had her phone in her hand and was asked not to record anything. She agreed immediately and put her phone away. They came out. The next two tried to enter but were not buzzed in. Police went in to inquire. After a pause, a blond female staffer, middle aged and very nervous, came out with the police and started handing out comment forms. Which we were to fill out on the public sidewalk on Harrodsburg Road and mail in. We were not going to be allowed to speak to the staffer after all, police said. When we asked why not, she turned around abruptly and scurried back into the office and locked the door, taking most of the comment forms with her. Our group of gray heads was then escorted out by the police and forced to leave the premises. We were not a fearsome group. Just citizens, deeply upset by the assaults on our democracy, who wanted to have our concerns heard by the person we pay to represent us. That's democracy. Why such fear on that staffers face? Why the refusal to see constituents? Why call the police on a group of senior citizens?

Well since Canada isn't willing to become the 51st state I'm hoping they'll invade instead and bring us better healthcare. To welcome our Canadian overlords I made Poutine for dinner. :D
