ah yeah, that's a rite of passage. there are scripts and addons that either save or remind you to save out your textures too.

yeah! you can bake out all the layers you create to an image. or if you've done PBR painting it can bake all channels to RGBA, it's very powerful. the tutorials on youtube explain it all
