The 4th round game against Villa last season was basically the same! This is just who we are right now.

Chiesa has under 300 premier league minutes this year. And if we had Wirtz, Ekitike, Salah, Isak, Kudus would struggle for minutes too. But we have nobody at that level, so Kudus is basically the first name on the team sheet.

Fair point on the “with the same players” but would you apply the same grace to Frank on the missing attacking options?

We gave up SIXTY-FOUR league goals last season. We can debate whether the overall product is better, but saying the defense is not better is a wild take.

Part of why it seems a bit mad to me to make sweeping judgements at the beginning of January. We want a successful project but we’re unwilling to give anyone the time to accomplish it.

We are 3 points off 6th and 4 off 5th, and doing quite well in the Champions League. No doubt it *feels* worse because of the shambolic displays against Arsenal and Chelsea, and many of the home performances. But the league is stacked with “decent” sides this year.

Feels like Xavi is the closest we have, no? He had looked brighter before the red card, so hopefully he can pick back up where he left off. But we need more from everyone up top. Having your 2 best passers in defense isn’t ideal!

The 23-24 squad also had no Europe. I do think this squad is deeper but it has to be to deal with 8+ more matches. The top level of the attack is nowhere near the top of that squad though.

We are desperate for Maddison, Kulusevski, or Solanke to give us any injection of quality up front. Watching those “counters” in the second half was a reminder of how incisive and clinical the Son-Kane Spurs were.
