Markarian’s Chain, part of the Virgo Clusterhome to thousands of galaxies tangled in a gravitational dance. Near the center of the frame you’ll find The Eyes, NGC 4435 and NGC 4438. Nearly every fuzzy "star" in this image is a galaxy, each one packed with billions of suns. #astrophotography #cosmos

For my arts elective this semester, I'm enrolled in a digital photography class. It's been really fun, and I enjoy the quests we've been given so far. This week's focus was composition, white balance, and light editing.

At some point during the #editing process, I remove the stars from my #astrophotography images to work on target specific details. I'm always tempted to just leave the stars out. And finish my work without them. Is #starless better? #astronomy #space #universe #art #wonder #nebula #photography #apod

This thing has been an absolute nightmare to process. Just under 6 hours of exposure time on #Caldwell7, a spiral #galaxy 8 million light years away. Captured with a C11 + #HyperStar @ f1.9 540mm, ASI2600MC, EQ6-R. 176x120s subs. #Astrophotography #NGC2403 #DeepSky #art #lonely #photography #apod

Hey #astro fans! Do you have a fav #galaxy? Galaxy season is coming up, and I'd love to capture some photons by request. If I can image them from my little #observatory and my mount holds up, I'll try! Drop your favorite in the comments! #astronomy #space #poll #astrophotography #photography #art

More time. More work. More detail.
I've had to cull quite a few frames, due to an overloaded mount. @skywatcherusa.bsky.social isnt too active here, so they don't see my pleas for an eq8-r.

I was able to revisit this image and reveal some more hidden details. I'm still learning. Each time I open images again, I have new ideas for unlocking them! Still looking for a new mount.

I got some time on the Heart Nebula. Not a ton of good data, so I had to work hard to pull detail out of it. Looking forward to getting a better mount soon. Hey @skywatcherusa.bsky.social, any plans for a sale on the EQ8-R/tri pier coming up?

2 more hours of data and a lighter hand when processing. This is my favorite so far! Eq6-r guiding a Celestron C11 @ 540mm and F1.9 via hyperstar. ASI 2600MC PRO.
I NEED A NEW MOUNT. @skywatcherusa.bsky.social

I'LL NEVER BE HAPPY WITH MY ART.
The last one was too pink.

This is about 2 hours of additional exposure time on top of the last version of the Andromeda Galaxy I posted. I stacked it and tried to gently process it.

M31, captured by me on January 21st. My main target had some passing clouds, so I decided to swing around to this.
15 minutes of integration on my C11 at 540mm F1.9.
Processed in DSS and PS.
I'm slowly learning how to process astro pics, so go easy on me!

1/2 On November 15th, 2024 I undertook a seemingly doomed mission, hiking up to one of my favorite stargazing spots with my all my gear to capture the Full Beaver Moon. It was a cold evening and I battled numb fingers to get my camera all set up and stable in the windy conditions. #photography #oops

Astrophotography is fun, but I want to contribute to actual scientific research with my telescope. Does anybody know of any fun citizen science projects I could participate in with a backyard observatory? @roguenasa.bsky.social

Folks seem to like this pond. I'll look for more of the pics I took that morning. I really thought it was a waste of a morning, missing the comet and all. But the rising sun shining through windswept clouds was truly stunning.

Another pic of the #sunrise that morning. I really dislike waking up early, but this was definitely worth it.

I woke up early to capture comet C/2023 A3 (Tsuchinshan-ATLAS) last autumn, and clouds prevented it. I was able to capture an incredible sunrise though! #photography #sunrise #nature

Throwback to the solar storm of 2024. We were expecting a dud. But it ended up being the most incredible #aurora we've ever seen. Towering pillars of light overhead, with shimmering sheets in every direction. Absolutely otherworldly.
