Age yourself with a movie you saw in a theater as a kid.

I think this may be the very first movie I saw in a theater, but I'd seen some earlier ones at drive-ins. My parents had six kids and a station wagon.

This was definitely the first I saw in Cineramaa.

My new short story collection, Remembrance of Things to Come, is scheduled for release October 3rd, both ebook and paper. The ebook is available for pre-order on Barnes & Noble and probably other places (though not Amazon yet). I'm publishing this one through Draft2Digital.

Looks like my new short story collection will be published October 3 -- assuming I can get my software to cooperate in getting the files ready to upload.

I'm getting serious about publishing a new collection of my stories from the past three decades or so. I've decided I will indeed write short intros for them, as I did in Celestial Debris, and here's my first rough pass at the cover.

Well, I wrote six pages of Tom Derringer & the Sinister Statue over the weekend, but today, nothing. Maybe I'll do better tomorrow.

I've sold a story called "To See the New Jerusalem" to the Seattle Worldcon anthology. (I submitted it before any of the AI kerfuffle.)

Happy Mother's Day!
My mother has been gone for 35 years, but I've recently come into possession of her old rocking chair. I remember her sitting in it and rocking my kid sisters to sleep when they were babies, over 60 years ago. It was white then, rather than blue.

Movie you’ve watched more than six times using gifs.

(“Hard mode” no Star Wars, Star Trek, or LOTR)

And of course, using undocumented immigrants or child labor is preferred over actually paying enough to attract ordinary workers.

I haven't plugged any of my work here on Bluesky yet, so I guess it's time. I'm the author of the Obsidian Chronicles, a trilogy starting with Dragon Weather. As a boy Arlian's home is destroyed by dragons, and he devotes his life to revenge on both the dragons and the looters who followed them.

I've gotten two fan emails today. I usually get that many in a month or so, not a day. One was about the Ethshar series (the most common topic), and the other was about my SF novel Shining Steel.

One of the most interesting things for me in Claire McNear's book about Jeopardy!, Answers in the Form of Questions, was all the mentions of other books about Jeopardy!, none of which I had ever heard of.

This past week Seattle got enough snow to build snowmen. Just barely, but I have photographic proof it was possible.

I've been reading the "Please Don't Tell My Parents..." YA superhero series, and enjoying it even though it's pretty silly. I'm four volumes in.

After spending most of the month traveling, and despite having houseguests, I actually got some writing done last night. First time this year. Although it was mostly revising rather than adding new material, I finished Chapter Three of Tom Derringer & the Sinister Statue, and started Chapter Four.

Another childhood favorite comic of mine was Tales to Astonish #13, the original Groot's first appearance. I had a thing about trees as a kid.

I taught myself to read at age five so that I could read this comic book.

Yesterday we went to Poulsbo's Julefest, honoring the town's Norwegian roots. I was boggled how many people asking directions pronounced it "Jewel-Fest" instead of the correct "Yule-fest." (There's another half-swallowed syllable in the middle, but I can't figure out how to represent it.)

The view from our deck was quite spectacular this morning.

Wrote four pages of the next Tom Derringer novel today. It's the fifth book in the series, of a planned seven.

What I've been reading this weekend. I was interested initially because I liked "Miss Fisher's Murder Mysteries" on TV. And it's got a great title. As the author says in her introduction, TV Phryne and book Phryne are different, but I enjoy them both.
