Haha, I'm amazed at how much my players covet and value imaginary stuff. They love it and hoard it, it was a pretty big feature of our DCC game. It's definitely carried through into our Traveller game, the Central Supply Catalogue is full of hi tech goodies, they are always on the hunt for.

Skills based with a standard mechanic is the GOAT, doesn't really matter what the dice is, as long as the basic mechanic is same for everything - makes it easier for the GM. Traveller and Call of Cthulhu nailed it really well. I just play D20 fantasy RPGs for a nostalgia trip these days.

Dungeon Crawl Classics, Call of Cthulhu, Mothership and we are settling in for Traveller for a while. If I went back to Fantasy, I would probably do OSE or Dragonbane by Free League ..
