This is the first time this restoration technique has been used in the southwest (piloted in the northwest) and in just 8 months we’ve seen the fen go from bare ground to a rich wetland ecosystem. Incredible work @usfs.bsky.social ! #Peat #Restoration #GroundwaterWetland

In Southeastern Arizona, this is often water that fell from the sky 20,000+ years ago and entered the ground water system!

Very interesting indeed! There is some wonderful work diving into the details of why we don’t see more landslide activity from the 1700 quake. LaHusen, 2020 for example. This region is set up geologically for catastrophic failures, but triggers can be more complex, dependent on “priming”
