“Anathem” by Neal Stephenson. Three words: “Monks in Space.” The first time I read it I turned from the last page to first page and read it all over again. It’s that good.

Try “Outlander” by Diana Gabaldon (the source material for the TV show by the same name.) It’s a unique blend of action, adventure, romance, historical fiction and fantasy. If you like it there are sequels.
