I collect plastic trash that has washed up on Texas beaches and turn it into big, colorful sculptures. Each piece tells the story of our ocean and why it deserves protecting. Our goal is to effect change in the making and disposal of plastic.

Nobody brushes their teeth on the beach and tosses the toothbrush in the sand. Yet they wash up all the time. They come from somewhere far away. Where are they coming from and how do we stop it? This is only a small amount that we have picked up in the last 8 years.

Most beach trash is not left by visitors. This rubber frame is waste from stamping shoe soles. Nobody stamped shoes on the beach. It washed up from somewhere far away. Where is it coming from and how do we stop it?

These white barnacles are made from pieces of hardhats lost offshore. We collect them from Texas beaches and turn them into art that tells the story of what ends up in our ocean. 18 billion pounds of plastic hit the water each year, and that’s just the tip of the iceberg.

Sedna is not a sculpture. She’s a warrior. A symbol of the fight against ocean plastic. Made from thousands of pieces of beach trash, she stands for every sea creature threatened by the 18 billion pounds of plastic that enter the ocean each year. And that’s just the tip of the iceberg.

Costa the Mermaid, made from thousands of pieces of beach trash, is now at home on South Padre Island at the SPI Birding Center. She’s part of our mission to turn what washes up into art. 18 billion pounds of plastic enter the ocean each year, and that’s just the tip of the iceberg.

18 billion pounds of plastic enter the ocean every year, and that’s just the tip of the iceberg. At Washed Up Texas, we turn beach trash into larger than life sculptures that show the scale of the problem and spark conversations about protecting our oceans.

Josie isn't a rescue turtle; she's made from trash that washed up on Texas beaches. Every screw, every piece, hand placed to tell the truth: we are drowning our oceans in plastic. 18 billion pounds a year and that's just the tip of the iceberg.
