ok I **TRIED**!

I snagged some Ubiquiti UDIM-AT light switches, and was hoping to get level data and "button press" data out of them and I'd relay that on to other things.

_NOPE_

After getting a uck-g2-plus so I could install the Unifi Connect stuff (_WHY_ isn't that a container or some other […]

**sigh**

Trying to explore options of getting light and such control around the new house because it's going to need some help.

So I was like "hey, I've got Unifi going for switches and APs, lets go grab some of their dimmer switches and see if I can get those bolted into Home Assistant and go […]

I mean, I haven't done much with an Arduino in a while anyway so I guess I'll just repeat the obvious?

Arduino is dead, long live Espressif!

I'm beyond un-impressed with Bell Canada literally rescheduling twice, then not showing up or calling twice leading to 4 skipped install windows and pushing out an install that should have been the evening of the 4th to the 19th or later.

Seriously that's an absolutely ridiculous amount of my […]

Jeez.

Puralator: ohhhh we can totally deliver that package you need.... Back to the shipper because we got the shipment so f'ed up that's the only thing we could do.

Bell: yeah we'll ignore the *4th* install window we've set to drill a hole, but the fiber that's curled up outside my house […]

Well Bell Canada has sure given me the proper welcome to having service in Canada: bump day 1, bump day 2, no-show day 3 and a reschedule 9 days from original date with no guarantee they won't continue this game for a ridiculously quick and simple fiber install.

No wonder you all hate them!?!

So *TRYING* to get Internet from TekSavvy going. Started fine, they got the bell tech scheduled all good.

Day shows up for install, get a call from bell to reschedule to the next day on voicemail. Obnoxious, but ok.

Next day get a call from bell telling me they were skipping me again, and […]

So, dealing with new house stuff. The light switches in several places are... Obnoxiously located. So I'm going to be sticking erhernet in the walls anyway, and all that jazz someone has to make a nice poe powered toggle switch that either looks/acts like a normal switch or is just a poe toggle […]

_large sigh_

Doing an upgrade on the big primary mail server. It's been needed for a long time, all's fair.

Till it got to re-labeling the filesystem.

That uses maildir, in /home.

I'm not convinced that the machine doing file compression across 90-someTB of disk is doing more I/O than the VM […]

Praise to the repair $dieties my old 1U IBM KVM screen is back up and running again and I can actually see what's going on on the screens!

I was right and the inverter board for the monitor was not pushing out enough to get the backlight on.

I absolutely freaking lucked out and someone had […]

Slight longshot: I've got a Fedora box (a firewall) that uses tpm2 to unlock the luks2 on the drives. Now, wholeachine takes 3 minutes 40 seconds or so to boot, 1:30 of that is bios stuff I can't speed up. That leaves 2:10 or so in booting, and a *LOT* of that is seemingly sitting at prompts […]

la la la, building up a new firewall for the new house, and I went:

_"Hey! ISC DHCP is about as EOL as it gets, it's not in el10, lets migrate to kea like I properly should!"_

**mucks about, eventually gets 2578 lines of config sorted out, goes to try it**

Ok since I'm already half doing it _ANYWAY_ I pose this question:

Should I take over ulogd package maintainer in fedora and possibly epel?

If it's just me and my epel-missing-pieces copr repos because I'm the only one using it basically, I'm content.

If there's anyone else that wants / needs […]

I look, manifest v3.

How... _delightful_.

Why am I backing up everything in Chrome you ask and moving to another browser? No reason, clearly.

**On the one hand:** ESPHome solves a huge number of issues, and it's not bad.

**On the other:** _GOOD GRIEF_ , I flipping swear, every time I need to update something it's a compilation disaster mess! Went to update my gl-s10 bluetooth proxies, should be easy and painless, right?

**HA**

Ok while trying to report the sync oddity with the WiiMs and the Logitech Squeezebox Radio's I've got I tripped over one of the 3 radios in my office that can sync up solidly.

Double checked, it's the converted UE.

The converted UE that can't use it's wifi because it's just broken or […]

Investigating an ISP up in Canada:

**ISP:** We do static IP addresses at residential

**Me:** yay, and I notice you provide IPv6 addresses too, those are static as well if you go static?

**ISP:** we only provide 1 IPv6 addresses, and there's no such thing as a static IPv6 address

**Me:** […]

Ok that only took me freaking forever today, and I still don't have it narrowed down enough:

Yay.

Ok lets see if someone can come prove me wrong, but I snagged a WiiM network receiver to play with. Vague thinking is for hiding in a kitchen cabinet to run some wall speakers in the new kitchen. Snagged the Pro, mostly it's the cheaper one that had what I wanted mostly.

Why did I snag it you […]

Ugh, got my droplet water meter working and talking to MQTT, but had to chat with the AI tech support to get there.

Fun fact: it didn't help

The problem was my 37 character mqtt password, their apps password box accepting 26, and their device only being able to use 25.

Eventually got it […]

Hmmmmm...

That's interesting...

We might have bought a house in the Ottawa area of Canada...

Guess I should start looking for contractors to do some electrical, low voltage, internet, flooring, etc work up there for when we can take possession in November...

Ok someone out here almost certainly knows, and I need a double check: does Alpine Linux ship with sysfs by default?

I mean there's a lot of things that half rely on sysfs being around for somewhat good reason, but I've got some indications it doesn't ship with it by default, and that seems […]
