Seems like there's a choice being made between giving it oxygen by reporting on it or smothering it by neglect. Thing is, it's already burning out of control in the fever swamps of MAGA. At this point, reporting on it wouldn't be oxygen, but water.

They absolutely do act 100% in the interests of their constituents, who are themselves and the people who fund their campaigns. OTOH if you think constituents = voters, you've made a category error.

I hope the movement to delegitimize ICE doesn't take this as victory and rest on its laurels. They're throwing him under the bus but changing nothing. Keeping up the pressure is more important than ever: this is evidence that protests work. So, more of this!

Take out the 30-ish% of MAGA true believers, and you get 100% of us who think the country is out of control. He could indeed shoot someone on 5th Avenue and the people who wouldn't care are all in that 30%.

There are structural reasons a viable 3rd party can't evolve, one of them being our first past the post voting system. Another is the stupid Electoral College. At the national (but not state\local) level some aspects can be fixed by Congress, but fixing the EC needs a constitutional amendment.

I thought the Chevy Volt was the best way to do a hybrid. Basically an EV with a battery good for 60 miles or so, and an engine that only charged the battery, no connection to the drive wheels at all. Range good enough for daily driving if you recharged it overnight, and no range anxiety.

So 61% of registered voters are disappointed? Remember that some 35% (more or less) are MAGA, who will approve of anything that happens while Lord trump of Mara Lago is in office. So take that 35% from the 39% and only 4% of the fact-based electorate approves. No idea why it's that high TBH

ISTR something about a proposed amendment that affirmed every citizen's right to vote. Unsurprisingly it never went anywhere, although if it should come up again it should clarify that they get to cast a meaningful vote, ie no gerrymandering.
January 25, 2026 at 3:59 PM
They've spent 40 years getting us to this point, it'll take at least that long to get to a good place. It won't be an updated version of the same place as before, either.

To Republicans in office, the constituents who they work for and the voters who elect them to office are two entirely separate groups. Some of their Venn diagrams have no overlap at all.
January 24, 2026 at 4:03 AM
That's not THIS world, though. Here on Earth 1, MAGA is only interested in power: they demonstrably have no interest in improving the lives of their voters. And no, I didn't misspell "Republicans", because Rs have become \ been swallowed by MAGA. There's functionally no difference between them.
January 21, 2026 at 2:29 PM
1 - this would be a military coup
2 - for the last 20 years "bipartisan" has meant Republicans\MAGA blocking everything Democrats try to do. So, no.

Thanks for playing

25A is MUCH harder than simply impeaching him. A power-drunk cabinet of sycophants has to vote 2X to remove him, then ⅔ of the Senate AND ⅔ of the House. Impeachment is ⅔ of the Senate to convict, but only a simple majority of the House to impeach. 4 votes vs 2; a supermajority of both houses not 1.

If "the USA" is selling the oil, explain to me like I'm 5 why ALL of the money doesn't belong in the US Treasury. Anyone willing to bet that none of it ends in trump's pocket?
January 15, 2026 at 11:55 AM
True, that's a predicate not in the premise, but is irrelevant to the "what's next?" part of the questions.

Flip bird: presidential
Wear tan suit: contempt for the dignity of the office

But will they accurately report it where people see it? Or will they just sanewash it like they do the rest of his incoherent ravings?

He's presidenting in Venezuela the same as he's presidenting in the US: not at all, can't be bothered
January 15, 2026 at 4:17 AM
Astonishing that a reported 15% of them apparently think that the nonexistent US social safety net and for-profit healthcare system would be an upgrade.
January 14, 2026 at 7:12 PM
Hypocrisy is believing one thing then doing the opposite. MAGA are not hypocrites: they believe might makes right and act accordingly. Certainly, they lie about what they believe but that's no different from dying their hair: the true hair color/beliefs are unaffected.
January 14, 2026 at 12:45 AM
I really want a Dem Senate to use their power. They absolutely cannot be allowed to develop amnesia about the last 10 years. Sorry, 15 years. No, I mean 25 years.
January 13, 2026 at 1:26 PM
I'm trying to reconcile this with some long-ago study that said most independents are really on Team Red/Blue but won't register that way. "True" independents are maybe 5% of the electorate so chasing them instead of turning out people who already agree with you is just tinkering at the edges.

No. Anything completed should be torn down and all contacts cancelled. The Epstein-distraction ballroom is a blight on The People's House. Restore to the previous state as much as possible.
January 11, 2026 at 5:10 AM
The US regime is washing its hands of any concern whatever about the rest of the planet, not excluding its own people. If it can't be monetized or subjugated (or both), it's worthless.
