If our debt becomes unreliable it's a big problem. If China sold all of its US debt (about 7% of the total debt) that would raise interest rates, but wouldn't bankrupt us.

Read What We Owe by Carlo Cotterelli. It's a bit old now and 122% Debt to GDP is too high, but 79% of US debt is owned by the US public, one of the healthiest numbers in the OECD. The US debt isn't as much a burden on future generations as much as it is a loan with interest for our grandchildren.

If you think it doesn't help, in special elections, less voters vote and the most engaged are the ones voting. A few thousand votes will decide these districts and could flip the house. This means control over budgeting and ability to conduct investigations.

I'm a dyed in the wool progressive, but doesn't this also mean that we Democrats have failed these counties and they aren't coming to us for the answers any more? Hard to be the party for the poor and rip them for how they vote at the same time.
