AU - Alistair left in the Fade (DAI) The crow is waiting at her tent and Lisbeth knows what tidings it brings without opening Leliana’s letter. Her eyes blur the words together, but they focus on Alistair’s name and everything else ceases to mean anything. They could be miles apart, but the second he shifted restlessly on his feet Lisbeth would feel it in her bones. The taint of darkspawn blood tied them together across foreign lands. That connection snapped like a rusted chain the moment the Inquisitor sealed the rift behind her. Lisbeth collapses, a cave-in that leaves her crawling along the mud and clutching threadbare patches of grass in her shaking fists. She is crying, shouting, spit and snot mixing with the sodden ground until she can taste grit in her mouth. The crow remains, settling in as the sun sets and reveals the stars above. Lisbeth is cold in a way she’s never been, bones heavy like metal as she turns to lay on her back. They mock her pain, the stars shining brilliantly as if nothing had changed. As if her love wasn’t suddenly so far from her in a place she had no hopes of reaching. He is a ghost lying next to her, phantom hand pointing up towards their favorite constellation, “The Lovers”. A cluster of stars they drew together the night they kissed for the first time. Or was it the second? Lisbeth’s breaths come out quick and harsh as her mind struggles to remember every second they spent together. She can’t lose those memories too. She won’t.
