And to be honest there is something really appealing about the way an LST opens itself wide, like a majestic baleen whale gulping a bazillion plankton.

Truly a fascinating conflict, both because of its geopolitics and because it served as a glimpse of the technology and tactics (and brutality) of future wars in Europe.

(This work is public domain, as it was part of a report created by an employee of TASS between 1925 and 1955)

I love tanks that look like they could be comfortably driven by a James Bond villain. Thanks for sharing!

The FT looks rather puny, and indeed they were. At 6.5 tons, they were far and away the smallest tanks of the Great War.

Yet they were also the most important. They were the first tanks to have fully rotating turrets--a defining feature of all future tanks.

It's a crude scene. There's some funny parts--the violinist, the guy trying to lug the grandfather clock. But there's also a woman (center, yellow top) who looks like she's being assaulted. There's cruelty in the looters' faces. Overall a fascinating painting.

The guy on my shoulder every time I walk into a bookstore (my shelves are already overflowing with unread books)

Personally I've always been fascinated by the EW 141. It seems like it was only ever used on the Panzer I C, and there's very very little info available freely online (not that it's very complicated, but still!)

Absolutely. Em dashers on the offensive, at last.
