Pretty grim turn of events that has forced the Guardian staff to strike.
Not a decision they will have taken lightly. But if the Observer gets hived off and loses its editorial anchor, the imbalance in our press will worsen further.

To be clear: I love the Guardian & Observer. I have devoted 20 years of my life to it. I believe it’s one of the most important platforms for liberal journalism in the world. And I’m one of 700+ journalists who believe this is profoundly wrong
700+ journalists at Britain’s only liberal newspaper(s) believe that something has gone so profoundly wrong in their own organisation that 93% of them have voted to go on strike

At one level, Bailey’s comments are a statement of the bleeding obvious. Brexit erected trade barriers. Reducing those barriers would help trade. At another level, they're a sign it's now easier to talk about the cost of #Brexit, @davidgauke.bsky.social says. ~AA
