Ontologically, they are structural, stochastic, epistemic & psychological sources of decoupling

1️⃣ System limits
2️⃣ inefficiencies
3️⃣ Measurement mismatches
4️⃣ Motivational misdirection

They span physical & cognitive domains, concurrent & prospective timescales, and subjective & objective effort

What a cool format! 🎓

I had a great time as the opponent at Thekla Müller-Boysen’s PhD defense @au.dk. It was a strong defense and made for a fun discussion on boredom & its interpersonal consequences.

Huge thanks to @stepf.bsky.social & team for the invite 🙏

Interest in #boredom appears to be still high & I am all here for it 😁

Stay tuned

Had a blast chairing today's session on movement and cognition at the Sports, Medicine and Health Summit in Hamburg. #SMHS

Very cool experience to contribute to such an interdisciplinary event in such a pretty city 😁

Great experience to present the #boredombook today w @corimartarelli.bsky.social at the boredom conference🤩
Thanks to @jamesdanckert.bsky.social for chairing, to the audience for the great discussion & to Josefa Ros for putting it all together 🙏

Had a great time presenting our ideas on the utility of studying explore-exploit trade-offs in #sports at the ASP Conference in Bochum!

I appreciate the nice turnout - especially for such an early morning session after the social evening 😜🙏

Thanks @cmdn-lab.bsky.social for inviting me to chat about our research @dhprlab.bsky.social on the dynamics of human performance regulation 🙏

I greatly appreciate the exchange of ideas & look forward to more table soccer tournaments in the future 🤩

That was fun!

Thanks a lot for inviting me to talk about @dhprlab.bsky.social research at the ICAN hour of the Institute for Cognitive and Affective Neuroscience at the Hamburg Medical School.

The views on my way to the venue were already worth it 🤩

Very excited to talk about “Dynamics of Human Performance Regulation” in my inaugural lecture at @uni-hamburg.de.

I am very grateful for the nice turnout, the opportunity to share some of our @dhprlab.bsky.social research & explore ideas for future collaborations with so many amazing colleagues 🤩

The same task can feel like time flies or drags. Why? We propose subjective duration depends on dynamics of two factors: 'loaded time' (effort) heightens internal sensations & 'empty time' (boredom) focuses attention on them. As task-induced processing demands change, so does perception of time.

Super excited to be setting up a new lab at @uni-hamburg.de next spring. 🤩

We take a psycho-neuro-physiological approach to focus on dynamics of human performance regulation.

Interested in joining the team and/or have any questions? DM me & stay tuned for upcoming job openings!

thx for sharing 😊

Finally got my hands on this amazing read by Loh Seng Tsai from 1932 (🤯): "The laws of minimum effort and maximum satisfaction in animal behavior."

- Reports 21 experiments, where rats minimized effort (across domains) | maximize need-dependent rewards (across reward types and structures).
