Just 18 miles outside of the suburban sprawl of Modesto, CA lies the 7500 acres of restored riparian habitat and oak grasslands of the San Joaquin River National Wildlife Refuge. Pictured here are a Great Blue Heron and American Kestrel within the Refuge grounds

I was really lichen...pause for laughs...this shot of immature White Crowned Sparrows (?) I got today. Merlin was toss up between golden crowned and white crowned, but I think the latter 🧪

Some of my early attempts at plant photography. I've found that while much easier to photograph then wildlife, the IDing is much more complicated for me 🧪

Digging up some old gems. It's a challenge to shoot invertebrates I've found, but a fun one

Because of that it's been a goal of mine to encourage people to explore and expierence that natural world. If you look it can often be found in our own urban spheres. Take a moment on your break to admire the wildflowers growing along the sidewalk or the birds singing in your garden.

I've worked professionally in the natural resources field for the past 6 years; a hair longer if you count an internship in college. One thing I've found that has always amazed me was the number of people who have never expierence nature to any degree.

My passion for all things wild started when I was a child. And has stuck with me through several twists and turns of my academic and professional life.

Lark sparrows, while common, will always be one of my favorite songbirds to photograph. Mainly because they always look like they aren't happy to have their photo taken.

There are many variables that come into play when taking any photo. Sometimes they take some tweaking and sometimes they don't cooperate at all. But other times, everything just clicks. This was one of those times.

I'm always on the lookouts for those big dramatic nature scenes in the wildlands around me. While not an active hunt I do love this shot of the Acron Woodpecked diving out of the oak with the Sierra Foothills stretched behind it.

One of my favorite shots of San Francisco. Even the uncooperative weather diffused the lighting into a wonderful dreamy effect. Although I'm not sure if I like the moody B&W version better or not.

What do you guys think?
