Parapsychologists who, despite the marginalization of psychic phenomena continue to research them, often try to develop what amounts to a new metaphysics in order to explain their data. They want to replace the Cartesian paradigm of modern science with a new paradigm or framework of knowledge. They miss the deeper significance of these phenomena, which is that the spectral ought to give us an insight into what model building is. Studying psychic phenomena should help us to understand how we construct frameworks of knowledge, beginning with a recognition that scientific paradigms and the theories they make possible are psychologically and socially constructed. We have no objective access to the putative "Reality" that has been so long sought after by scientists, metaphysicians, and mystics. There are different forms of life, and they have various finite horizons of experience, based on what their vital interests are. There is no objective perspective or standpoint. 100% and also stop teaching boys that they need a wife to mother them when they grow up. Teach all children to be self-reliant and welcome loving partnership, not codependency and servitude.
Daughters are no longer raised to be wives. They're raised to be people. And some people are really not okay with that. They're not being taught to sacrifice themselves for the comfort of others. Not being told that marriage is the finish line. Not being conditioned to make themselves smaller to be loved. They're being raised to earn their own money, choose their own timing, live alone if they need to, and not apologize for wanting more. They're building lives where love is welcome but not begged for. They're questioning things their mothers had to silently accept. They're choosing healing, not just habits. And for people who are used to obedience, that kind of freedom looks like defiance.

The idea that capitalism, for instance, was engineered as a grand conspiracy in a boardroom - or in the mustachioed heads of profit-seeking warlords - leaves out too much. It emerged, instead, from the frictions of history, from material conditions, from desire as a weathering pattern, from microbial economies, from the logistics of grain storage, from the accidents of enclosure, from Black cadavers propped on necromantic tables, from the wooden cartographies of slave ships and trade winds, from the seductive poetry of sugar, from the whims of markets, from the movement of bodies and commodities across seas. It is not a machine that can simply be "switched off" by policy reform or radical will.

Society is collapsing around us. Things are markedly getting worse, and have been for decades. And we've waited for help. We were told hard work would save us. But we've worked tirelessly and have less to show for it than our predecessors. We were conditioned to think elections and laws would save us. But we've seen those same laws and policies get reversed when we needed them most. And we've seen progressively worse monsters rise to power. We were programmed to think law enforce- ment and the military would save us. But they stand by idly at best, or bludgeon us to death at worst. We were told selfless heroes would save us— the next Kennedy or Martin Luther King. But those men as we know them don't even exist. They have been romanticized, idolized, and propagandized to the point where they aren't real. There are no heroes coming. And now that we know this, we have an op- portunity to save ourselves. Rather than descend into despair, we can act on this revelation and do what must be done. We can organize and coordinate a plan.

Starting Somewhere by Roderick Douglass There’s a reason the NAACP still exists but the much more radical MOVE organization in Philadelphia had a bomb dropped on their headquarters by the U.S. government. It’s rare to encounter orgs or individuals who’ve been effectively fighting the system for decades on end, unless they’ve stopped challenging institutional power in any significant sense. Career activists are just that. Radicals are not seeking long-term employment, but transformative change.
