The Arland games is what I'd recommend. Rorona is pretty strict on the time limit, but it's the starting game for the arland trilogy. I remember enjoying Ayesha as well.

Long time Atelier fan and I had to take a break with Ryza. I'd recommend trying out the older games in the series if possible. If you don't mind time management systems that is.
