I can't help but feel that YouTube intentionally ruined the recommended sidebar because that's intentional discovery and not passive (for longer engagement sessions). There are many times I try to go down a rabbit hole on a topic but search and "recommended" fail me. "for you" works... hours later

I remember having two modes of interacting with the Internet: catching up and intentional discovery. Catching up in the way of actually navigating to different websites and blogs and then using search to discover new people and topics. It feels like everything now funnels me to passive discovery.
