I also get that this is the kinda stuff that happens when you scam and abuse consumers into a corner. I just hope that this event can be a catalyst for actual change and not snowball into less and less righteous vigilante murders.

Again, I agree with you fundamentally. Being a CEO in the first place requires a certain degree of shamelessness and power hungriness. However, I disagree that the solution to our problems is for people to go around shooting CEO's whenever they see them on the street.

It's rarely based on evidence or accountability, and maybe today we hit the nail on the head and killed a shitty CEO but that's very often not the case.

Whether the latter can positively impact the former is up for debate and where we might differ, but I find that vigilante justice generally does more to hurt a cause and move it down the wrong path.

I'm also fully aware that positive social change is fucking painful and is often at the cost of many lives. However I also think there's an important distinction to be made between people making an organized effort for change and vigilante/mob justice.

I think I need to clarify my stance a bit more because it might come across as more idle and pacified than I meant. I'm not suggesting that our solution is in nicely asking our corporate overlords to be more just, or to sit and be content with what we have.

Agree with all of this.
Not hand-wringing per se, I think most of us are in agreement that Brian Thompson is a piece of shit and would be better off dead. However, it can also be true that murder is just generally a bad thing, and opening that door causes more problems than it solves.

I just think it's a bit of a dangerous precedent to set, the idea that shooting someone in the street is okay if enough people support it.
