Scientist and sports fan…
In this case, it is every window facing south…

This was our office Stonehenge (Nerdhenge) on Sep 19.

Lunch musings…

From a seasonal verification standpoint, Melissa tipped the scales to “mixed”: above normal ACE, # major hurricanes, and major hurricane days with below normal # named storms and hurricanes as well as storm days and hurricane days… unless the W Caribbean enters the chat at the end.

Prepping for an uncertain and possibly intense few days. Priscilla and, if it forms, Raymond look to hammer the southwest. My area of responsibility ends with, but includes the Rio Grande. I feel for the forecasters just to my west, but this is too close.

And today, today is Nerdhenge at the Weather Bureau…

And, as more puzzle pieces are put in place, now is the time to be prepared.

My preparation right now? Seeing what I can do to help my coworkers in offices to the east with coordination efforts, and be ready if asked to help.

Well, I guess it is good our most experienced tropical event forecaster is working the next few days…

Guess I need to keep my head on a swivel (looking at the Caribbean and BOC)…

Not a bad sunset. Looking west northwest from the Ol’ Weather Bureau in Cowtown, that anvil in the distance is from a storm south of Vernon…

Well, it is that time of year. If you don’t have a plan, now is a good time to make one and get prepared. This is a marathon, not a sprint.

Looks like the E Pac is getting ready to vent a lot of heat content…just hope the Atlantic stays more measured…
July 28, 2025 at 1:31 PM
Just wrapped up the most difficult week of my career. I was asked to provide an operational hydrologist perspective to model efforts to try and assist search and rescue efforts to find the last missing individuals from the Guadalupe floods. After a quick aerial and ground tour…

If you believe the rainfall forecast, this could be a million dollar event, on the hood side, for water supply, for West Texas…(looking at Ivie and Twin Buttes).

Opened my mouth earlier…really don’t need this right now (looking at gulf)…
July 8, 2025 at 9:55 PM
This is right outside our office. This road was stripped, repaired, and replaced in August, so not even a year.

From normal vehicle traffic. Could you imagine Abrams tanks on this?

Current standings in the AL West spell “SHAsTA” if you line up the hats…the second best order for my humor…second to this…

My heavy lifting today. We are getting to the point in some areas that I need to start highlighting reservoir “recharge” as much as flood risks…

Usually meteorologists are more “excited” for severe weather…

Just saying…
March 29, 2025 at 11:41 PM
A screen shot from the Texas Mesonet site…48 hour rainfall total (gage) of 10+ inches down near the Valley. And more rain is on the way.
