This is why, as a Palestinian, I sympathize with America, a country that has unfortunately lost its ability to work on behalf of its own best interests.

What I’m getting at is this: if America put America first, the Middle East would never have been bombed to oblivion all these years. If America put America first, Palestinians would have had freedom and self-determination decades ago. If America put America first, the world would be a better place.

After John F. Kennedy’s assassination, U.S. foreign policy in the Middle East completely changed, largely in part due to the expansion of the Israeli lobby and Lyndon B. Johnson’s favoritism toward Israel.

The day before JFK’s assassination, The New York Times even reported his administration supported the Right of Return of Palestinians, something unfathomable to imagine a U.S. president supporting today.

During JFK’s administration in 1962, the U.S. Department of Justice pressured the American Zionist Council, AIPAC’s predecessor, to register as a foreign agent under FARA due to its funding from Israel. Unfortunately, after his assassination, this was never enforced.

If America put America first, its actions in the Middle East would be vastly different. Prior to the Israeli lobby’s stronghold, Truman, Eisenhower, and JFK all maintained a policy of non-favoritism toward Israel.
